Jeffrey Burns
Title: Delegating Registered Nurse
Company: Victorian Order of Nurses
Location: Hamilton, ON, Canada
After being involved in a car accident that required him to undergo a very intense and long recovery, Jeffrey K. Burns was inspired to pursue a career in the health care field. He was interested in providing patients with the highest quality services and has been doing so for the past 14 years. Mr. Burns currently serves as the delegating registered nurse at the Victorian Order of Nurses, a not-for-profit home health care company that provides patients with home health care services.
Mr. Burns joined the organization in January 2014 and has become an integral member of its staff. He is responsible for working and connecting from his home with PSWs (personal support workers) in the field via phones and websites, and consulting in the field regarding patient care. Mr. Burns also promotes programs that meet community needs and provides patients with exceptional nursing care.
Prior to joining the Victorian Order of Nurses, Mr. Burns gained extensive experience in the health care field. He served as a registered nurse at Bayshore Home Health for a little more than eight years, and worked for Hamilton Health Sciences at the complex continuing care centre. Throughout his career, Mr. Burns became well versed in respiratory and palliative care, as well as tending to a wide range of patients, including teenagers and senior citizens. He attributes his success to his interest in human physiology and to the support he receives from his mentors. Looking toward the future, Mr. Burns would like to move into a supervisory position and become a manager of clinical practice.
Mr. Burns is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at McMaster University and is a registered nurse through Mohawk College. He is affiliated with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, College of Nurses of Ontario, and Men in Nursing.
