Shirley Fletcher’s interest in people and their development inspired her to pursue a career in training and consulting. She started Fletcher Consultancy Limited in 1993, working alone for the first year and developed to her current successful position through gradual expansion. She works with government bodies on national development projects, manages project teams in the U.K. and Europe, acts as lead consultant with Health Education England (formerly Department of Health), to develop a complete apprenticeship development and qualification program for all support workers in health care science, and speaks at conferences.
A seasoned professional with 38 years of experience, Ms. Fletcher has achieved tremendous success throughout her career. She believes the most gratifying aspect of her career is that the U.K. company achieved the highest turnover in its history last year-now led by her daughter Kelly, who has been involved for a number of years with increasing responsibility for the U.K. operations. A self-proclaimed opportunist, Ms. Fletcher is always looking for new areas to expand. She is able to take a complicated issue and put it into plain English. However, the key to everything is putting people first-whether that means clients or employees. She doesn’t just run her company, but also shares her knowledge through her writing. She is the author of “Competence and Organisational Change,” “Quality and Competence,” “NVQs Paperless Portfolio,” “Competence based Training,” “Competence based Assessment” and of several other business and training books. She attributes her personal success to her ability to listen to others, come up with something which the people need and her diagnostic abilities.
