Company: Independent Engineer
Location: Collingwood, ON, Canada
Harry A. Redstone, P.Eng., an independent engineer, offers consultancy, maintenance and technical services for clients in the mass transit industry. Drawing on more than 50 years of expertise in project management, Mr. Redstone specializes in overseeing the construction of dams, bridges, subways and mass-transit projects on both a national and international scale. He has been involved in projects all over the world, including North America, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. For the past eight years, Mr. Redstone has partnered with his wife, to whom he credits his success, to provide independent contracting. He attests that the most rewarding aspect of his career is guiding associates in the design and implementation of difficult projects, and seeing how those projects complement the surrounding area.
One of the challenges Mr. Redstone has had to overcome in his career is connecting with international clients. Oftentimes, he comes across different cultures while working with international clients, and he has had to learn how to weave through language barriers and differences in opinion. Mr. Redstone has also encountered widespread corruption, and has had to learn how to recognize and deal with responsible parties. He tries to handle these types of situations diplomatically, without creating too much conflict.
Mr. Redstone completed coursework in civil engineering with Professional Engineers Ontario, and holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Queen’s University. Mr. Redstone is a member of the Professional Engineers of the provinces of Manitoba and British Columbia, as well as a former member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK). He is also affiliated with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. When Mr. Redstone isn’t working, he enjoys listening to music, reading newspaper articles and traveling.
