With an interest in the health profession and desire to educate future students to become professionals in their fields, Dr. Janet Koehnke combined her two passions and has been working in an educational capacity since 1977. Dr. Koehnke specializes in psychoacoustics and binaural and spatial hearing, and started her career as an audiologist. As she expanded her skill set, Dr. Koehnke gained a reputation as an expert in her field.

She joined Montclair State University in 2005 and, in less than a decade, has developed and sustained the audiology program at the university. After the only audiology doctoral program in the state of New Jersey closed, Dr. Koehnke decided that students needed a place where they could finish their education. The program has assisted countless students in attaining the necessary education in order to become involved in audiology. Dr. Koehnke is also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day function of the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, conducting research in binaural and spatial hearing, teaching audiology, psychoacoustics and professional writing to graduate students, mentoring student research, and mentoring students in teaching practicum.

Prior to joining MSU, Dr. Koehnke served in a variety of roles at prominent educational institutions across the United States. She was an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University, teaching fellow at Harvard University, adjunct assistant professor at Boston University and the University of New Hampshire, and visiting scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
